Old-Time Strawberry Jam

3 cups crushed berries

3 cups sugar

  1. Put one cup of berries in a saucepan and add one cup of sugar; bring to a boil.  Put the second cup of berries in the saucepan and add one cup of sugar; bring to boil again. Put the third cup berries in the saucepan and add one cup of sugar; bring to a boil again.

  2. Continue boiling (medium or low heat) for 12 to 15 minutes, stirring frequently.  Pour into glass or stoneware bowl and let stand on the counter, sitting occasionally for one day. Put into glass jars and seal, or into jars and freeze.  This recipe uses less sugar and no commercial pectin.
