Our Farm

The family farm has been ripped from many of our family narratives. Our children don’t have Grandma and Grandpa or Aunt and Uncle to visit at the farm anymore. Maybe you never did either. As a result food is something from the grocery store. Nature on YouTube is as real as it gets. Visions of our children running wild and free are contained to cement padded playgrounds. We know something is off but don’t know how to fix it.

We have been blessed to have this place in our family for six generations and experience the power of the family farm every day. We want to extend that blessing to give your generation and your children’s, a place of connection to food, animals, the soil, to God. That deep connection is why it has stayed in the family for six generations. It is why this place is imprinted on our hearts and why we are doing all we can to keep it here for the great-great grandkids.

EXTENDED FARM HISTORY

The blessing of Cuff Farm’s started in 1849 when Alexander Cuff immigrated from Sligo County, Ireland and bought 100 acres in Hortonia, WI. Throughout the years the farm has transformed to fit the needs of each generation. Today George (Sandy) Jr. and Lois Cuff with their daughter and son-in-law Maggie and Alex Sudbrink are working to bring you high quality food and farm experiences through agritourism.

Sandy and his brother Jim grew up farming raising pigs, cows, and growing crops with their father George Sr. In 1960 George Sr. dug a pond and began planting strawberries in 1962 experimenting with different varieties and the pick-your-own business. This venture was on and off through the 1960’s and when Jim returned after college in 1972 the strawberry business became more established.

Sandy and Lois have been on the farm and married since 1986. Around 1989 Lois started as Principal at a local school district and saw an opportunity for the farm to invite schools out to pick pumpkins. That quickly took off and continues to grow every year.

Maggie and Alex continue to become more involved every year and bring new ideas to the table. Pick-your-own strawberries and pumpkins have been our staples for many years but we have recently added pastured poultry and pork, wood fired pizza, a certified kitchen producing farm made food, and hosting farm to table events.

We currently farm about 250 acres, renting some land from the original homestead. We also farm corn, oats, rye, soybeans, asparagus, and hay. Jim Cuff is still very involved providing us with an abundance of garden produce and making his owned pickled items.

We are blessed to provide our community with quality food, and farm experiences. We believe in connecting you to your food, farmer, and farm. We believe responsibly raised local food can transform our community. We are grateful to bring you along on our adventure!

We would love to have you out! We are currently only open to the public for events, pumpkin, and strawberry season. Join our email list so you don’t miss out.

Farm Land History

Sandy grew up as the youngest with his parents George Sr. and Margaret Cuff and siblings Jim and Carol on the farm that is the current Cuff Farms. Cuff Farms is adjacent to the original homestead which is owned by Carol and her husband Dave. The current Cuff Farms is land that was bought by George Sr. and Margaret when they wed in 1950.

Sandy and Jim grew up farming both Cuff Farms and the original Cuff homestead. Sandy and Jim’s grandparents Gladys and Clarence Cuff owned and lived on the original homestead until 1993. Dave and Carol now own and rent the original homestead. We rent and farm a portion of that land.
