Strawberry Shortcake

2 cups flour

6 T shortening or cold butter

2 tbsp. sugar

3 tsp. baking powder

1 tsp salt

  1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. Cut in 6 tbsp. of shortening or butter to the flour mixture until pea-sized clumps form. Stir in 2/3 to 3/4 cup milk and knead lightly.

  2. Cut out 12 biscuits with a biscuit cutter. Place one biscuit on a well-greased cookie sheet.  Dot with butter and place a second biscuit on top. Bake 12-15 minutes.

  3. Split layers apart and spoon sweetened berries between the layers.  Serve as is or with whipped cream.
